Estée Lauder

I write this, I am wearing my perfect shade of Double Wear 3N1, Ivory Beige, blended with Advance Night Wear for quite a beautiful flawless finish.  This is my go to, I mingle with other foundation brands and shades, but I am married to Double Wear, and despite trying to find another flawless finish, we are bound together til death due us part.

I discovered this foundation strolling through Marshall Fields, admiring the beautifully designed compacts, the cream rouge, and thoughts instantly run to my mom and aunt, in their prime dressing up in the 80s to go out, and when going out was an outright affair to be dressed appropriately, fluffy hair, lace dresses and fur coats with a glitzy clutch that matched the shoes and belts.  A girly girl since birth, I knew when I grow up, I will start my routine with these beautifully adorned compacts that are a beauty product and an accessory in and of itself and become an "Estée Lauder Lady."

Now in Marshall Fields, I am greeted by a beautician during holiday season, round tables adorned with lovely striped pink, two shades of green, and black satin tablecloths, filled with free gift with purchases and so many choices!

Her hair, a blond beehive, and bit old fashioned for the early 2000s but she beamed fashion perfection and knowledge in her black suit jacket adorned with pins of accomplishments, I was so taken in, that I did not read her name tag.  Because now I am thinking, do I want to be an Estée Lady at Marshall Fields? They sure do recognize their employees don't they? I am snapped back into reality because she is trying to get my attention, "honey? what brand of foundation are you wearing now?"

I tell her and she asks me what I like most and least; I explain I have to reapply so often. She introduces me to double wear and it literally changed life! I can start my day with this simple application and not worry a few hours later that my skin is flushed.  A couple weeks later, the magic wore off, something was off, it dried a bit differently, now I look like my makeup is sitting on my skin and not working with my skin.  I go back, and she tells me that skin changes with season, hydration, stress, and so on.  As a Noxema and Seabreeze girl that pampers with St.Ives and Queen Helene mint julep, I am learning some things, she educates me and I learn more about skincare and layering for skin.  Keep in mind this was 25 years ago, emphasis on makeup not skincare. I'm impressed and realize these ladies are just not selling makeup, no, they are experts that have to know more than just the product they are selling. She has all my trust because she understands my skin better than I do.

She shows me a bottle that resembles apothecary potions with a dropper and tells me about Advance Night Serum.  My thoughts flew to my face and without a word stated, expresses ohhh this is an upsell, and she sees this thought, not a word left me, and says orrr, any serum if you have a favorite.  I don't of course so I buy because it’s free gift with purchase season and the pouch was a square travel train in a lovely shade of the Estee red, patent leather, a gold name plate,  gold zipper with goodies and in this package, at the birth of self tanners, was a walnut fruition self tanner and a reason to buy darker foundation and exfoliants.  I fear I have been sucked into curated loyalty I do not want help out.
